BARN’s new home is full of natural light and a joy to use, thanks to the design created by Johnpaul Jones, an internationally renowned architect who lives on Bainbridge Island. At the center of the building, the Commons offers participants a place to interact as they have lunch or take a break. It includes a gallery of completed projects. Outside, landscaping does double duty, helping to filter and absorb rainwater as well as supporting BARN programs by providing herbs for the kitchen or natural dyes or basketry materials for the fiber arts studio.

With a vision to offer art instruction to artists of all levels, Martha Jordan created the Winslow Art Center in 2011. Located on Bainbridge Island, Washington, a short ferry ride from Seattle, the focus of the center was originally on instruction solely by our talented regional artists, but has grown to also include talented professional teaching artists from across the country and abroad. Winslow Art Center Studio and Gallery currently offers art experiences you can connect with such as but not limited to: *Paint Out Winslow (Plein Air Painting Festival)  occurring on the island every September under the care of Martha Jordan. *Winslow Art Center brick and mortar footprint grew as well! New space allows for more classes. Martha Jordan is committed to re-launching open studio with a figure as well as brown bag lunch conversation around art. *By taking a class, a workshop, attending a chat, becoming a member of the open studio group, traveling to Italy for a painting experience, or simply by sharing a refreshment and conversation at the monthly First Friday Art Opening. Looking forward to 2019, Martha is excited to once again orchestrate Paint Out Winslow – Sept 6,7 & 8, 2019. (Registration now open). The three-day extravaganza of outdoor plein air painting offers a nightly wet canvas sale hosted at and by The Winslow Art Center. Paint Out Winslow 2019 culminates Sunday with awards, and closing comments from 3-4pm Sunday at the Winslow Art Center. An intimate and inspiring focal point for the Bainbridge art community, find us upstairs in the Winslow Mall to see what’s new or join us at First Friday Art Walks.  We’d love to see you there!
