Memorial Day on Bainbridge Island

Presented by American Legion at Unknown

The American Legion is planning three public events to commemorate Memorial Day May 30 on Bainbridge Island.

At 11 a.m. the Veterans Memorial Monument at Bainbridge High School next to the stadium will be re-dedicated. The monument was refurbished and needed to be moved during recent construction of BHS Building 200.

Legion members will decorate the monument with wreaths and flowers, and the public is invited to bring decorations. BI Mayor Joe Deets, school district superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen, and other public officials will speak.

At noon, Scouts from local troops 1564 and 1804 will raise the U.S. flag to full staff, followed by the reading of the names of Bainbridge Islanders who died in service of the country.

At 12:30 p.m., the event moves to Colin Hyde Post 172 Legion Hall to commemorate its 80th year on BI. The event will feature a short history of the Legion and the hall and include a tribute to some past members.

The U.S. Navy Band Northwest will play music, and refreshments will be provided by the auxiliary unit.

The location of the Legion Hall is 7880 NE Bucklin Hill Road, next to Fire Station 22.
