This class will explore ways of putting down what we see simply while also capturing a sense of the specific. The focus will be on painting with oils from direct observation and aiming to capture feeling and movement in what we see. We will cover such topics as color unity, suggesting versus delineating, subordinating and prioritizing elements, composing and revising, taking risks, and building interesting surfaces.
Each week will include discussion, examples and either live or recorded painting demos. Participants will paint on their own between class sessions and can share work for critique and ask questions in a private online group. We will work from direct observation of the still life, working quickly but deliberately. Some painting experience is helpful, but everyone is welcome. You need not have taken the first class to enroll.
