Online Writing Workshop: Beyond Red-Haired, Green-Eyed Protagonists

Online Writing Workshop: Beyond Red-Haired, Green-Eyed Protagonists

Presented by Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) at Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN)

Writers tend to focus on character description, but does eye color really matter? Hair color and texture? Body type? Learn when appearance matters and when it doesn’t, and what qualities are much more important. We’ll also briefly touch on our own psyches and how we project ourselves onto our characters. That’s not a bad thing!

Join Martha Kay Salinas in a fun, question-and-answer Zoom session (I ask the questions, you write down the answers) that will lead you into developing more rounded characters. It’s not exactly a brainstorming session. It’s more of a brain tickling exercise.

Sample questions:

What is the worst thing that’s ever happened to your character?
What strength in your protagonist needs to be tested?
What vulnerability needs to be exposed?

Format: I’ll say a few words to frame the exercise and then we’ll get started. There might be time for a short discussion at the end.

Materials: Come with a character in mind. Link into Zoom from your computer, and take notes in any format you desire. You will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting the day prior to the class.

This class will be taught via Zoom
