On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the 18th century, a female painter is hired to paint a portrait of a young woman to send to her intended husband. Subterfuge is essential to capture this young woman unawares of the painting, but neither is expecting the relationship to move into the realm which it does. A bittersweet celebration of passion and art, this film is like no other romance, and is in itself a work of art.
